There is much we can be thankful for, a roof over our heads, food in our bellies, friends and family to spend time with. Yet, as mothers we worry about a lot. Are my children happy and flourishing, are they kind to their friends? Is my spouse happy, does he like his job, does he find me attractive? How is our marriage? There is much to think about as a wife and mother. And yet, nature shows us examples of the most beautiful thing we can do for ourselves and our families. Let go.
Instead of holding on tight to the idea of being a perfect mother, having the perfectly clean house, the perfect wardrobe, the perfect job or the perfect car. Can we just be there for those we love, and not worry about holding ourselves to a standard of the “perfect mother?”
Earlier this week I had a conversation about loss, a young mother suffered a miscarriage, the doctor said she was 11 weeks pregnant. Of course her and her husband were devastated. Loss it seems, is something rarely spoken about, but perhaps the more we speak up, the more we’ll see that its more frequent that we though. Losing someone is never easy, be it a child, family member, friend or even pet.
These are my first two “babies” who hiked with me to the top of Hanging Rock Park near Danbury, NC.
Each fall, the leaves on the trees turn the most beautiful colors, like the deep, rich red of the sugar maple tree, or the breath taking purple from the dogwood tree, and all the beautiful golden tones by many of the other trees. But we would not see this beauty without the trees be willing to let go.
What can you let go of today so that your inner beauty can shine through?
When you have a hungry husband, and a picky toddler in the house, how do you feed everyone? My very good friend Kristyn at Carolina Fireflies suggested white chicken chili to me months ago. I’m sure I chuckled a little inside and thought to myself (beans? kids don’t eat beans). Well let me tell you, she was right!
So I’m sharing with you, my own twist on White Chicken Chili. Try it out and let me know what you think!
Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 6-8 hours
Serve chili with remaining sour cream, corn tortilla strips, shredded cheese, avocado, or how about goldfish? Hey, its all about balance, right?
If you make this recipe for your family or next potluck, leave a comment here to let me know how you like it!
Autumn is one of my favorite times of the year. I love the crisp fall air and outdoor picnics and campfires. I love that there are more family get togethers, and lots of activities on the weekends. I mean, who doesn’t like apple picking, hay rides, fall festivals, football games, state fairs and eating and drinking pumpkin everything? What do you and your family like to do together on weekends? Do you have traditions you do together in the fall?
I’m so excited to share with you a few of my favorites from current trends for fall. I love Nordstrom for their quality of clothing, but also amazing customer service and free shipping and returns on everything. Sometimes it’s impossible to go into a store to shop, especially if you have to drive thirty or more minutes to get there with little ones in-tow. I love that I can order something I find online, but if I need a different size I can exchange it easily.
Here are a few items I’m currently obsessed with!
I love the bell sleeves on this fun sweater, it looks cozy and is so on trend right now. And this caramel colored, wide-brim felt hat was a super awesome find from Nordstrom. Can you believe it’s less than forty dollars? Distressed denim is in right now, in a very big way! And these high wasted pair tuck in and slim the tummy so nicely. At their current price, these are a steal compared to an other designer pair I’ve had my eye on which are well over $100. But can we talk about how cute these booties are? I love my Naturalizers and could live in them everyday if I had to.
This open front cardigan and soft pink mule sell out every time they get restocked. If you’re lucky enough to catch either of these, go for it! These shoes are perfect for running out the door in the morning and getting the kids in the car without much thought or effort. And the cardigan keeps you cozy, but still so stylish! It runs a little big, so size down from what you would normally wear.
The vest is always in style during the winter in the south, but these two are a little twist on the basic. A super soft sherpa shell and a smooth inner lining, you can’t go wrong with this cream colored vest. It will go with everything. Wear it to cheer on your alma-mater at football games, or just out to watch the kids play soccer, its a winner. And I love the color on the berries galore frost-free vest for women. It’s such a beautiful rich color that any women could wear and look amazing. Pair it with a berry colored lip and you’ll be one hot mama!
And finally, I had to include this fantastic maternity dress for all the pregnant mamas out there. The three-quarter length sleeves and A-line make it so flattering, you’re going to look amazing.
I really hope you’ve found this post to be helpful. Maybe there are few trend pieces you could see yourself wearing, maybe they’ll become staples in your wardrobe. Who knows? 🍁 Please leave your comments below to share your favorite trends or what you would like to see added to this post.
If you love the dress I’m wearing, you can pick it up at Old Navy, it’s on sale! And my belt is calf-hair, it’s from J.Crew’ve and I’ve had for years. I love that it goes with everything and leopard print never goes out of style, right?
By the way, Old Navy is one of my favorite stores to buy cute clothes for our little girl. They seriously have the cutest toddler clothes!
Maybe my next post should be an infant/ toddler clothing post, what do you all think?

Hi!👋🏼 I’m Christine. Daughter of Christ, child of immigrant parents, married to my loving husband / hiking buddy and blessed with a darling little girl who is the light of my life.
I am a people-person (do people still say that?) you’ll get that right away about me if we meet, I love to meet new people. After having worked in the corporate world for nearly 10 years, becoming a stay at home mom was a big change. Maybe you’ve done something similar? Staying home and arranging schedules to make sure feedings, playing, socializing, nap times, baths, bedtimes and other activities like household chores get completed is actually challenging. Who knew? I think because it’s so personal, it’s your family. Of course, I know lots of moms have multiple children and / or work part-time or full-time and still manage to get it all done. Go you!!
I know there are a lot of “perfect” mommy blogs out there, but most of us are far from perfect. I’d like to share the pretty, and the difficult moments here with you and be real.
Here are some of the topics I’ll be sharing with you weekly:
